Delicious crochet

The delicious master-piece to the left took Facebook by storm last week, with craft-lovers from around the globe sharing, Liking and discussing Adele's cake and we just had to find out where she got the moulds from!

Adele began decorating her own cakes 8 years ago after ordering one for her daughter's 6th birthday and being left in the lurch just 4 days before the party! Adele's Mum suggested she try her hand at decorating one herself as she'd always been arty; this was shortly followed by a cake for her son's 4th birthday, and the business grew from there – initially with requests from friends and family and then word spread and Adele set up her business on Facebook.

We asked Adele to tell us more about the cake that has proved so popular online and here's what she told us:

"The original request was from a lady who wanted a cake for her sister's 40th, the brief was anything "crochet and sewing", so this is the cake I designed... Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the lady didn't collect the cake, and so rather than it go to waste, I called a friend of mine, Mel Clarke, who works at a lovely old people's home, and asked if the residents there would like it. They loved it, and when we delivered it, they showed us all their own crochet, knitting and sewing hobbies, so it was the perfect themed cake for them."

Unfortunately, Adele will only be making cakes until the 1st week of January when she'll need to take a break for personal reasons. If you're interested in seeing more of her work or getting in touch you can visit her page here: Cakes by Adele (Broxbourne)

If you'd like to try your hand creating your own version, you can purchase the Crochet Moulds from Silly Con Moulds on Facebook.
