Designer Bio: Meeing Emma Escott

Date: 25th November 2013 | Category: Designer Bio

From issue 48, Emma Escott has joined the Inside Crochet team as our new monthly columnist and we couldn't be more excited!

We persuaded Emma to tell us more about her work, her love of crochet and her popular blog LuLu Loves.

IC: Hi Emma, it's no secret that we love your blog, but could you tell us how it started? What inspired you to create your own blog?

Emma: Thank you, I'm still surprised that anyone reads it at all if I'm honest! I started Lulu Loves whilst I was at home looking after our youngest child. I really wanted document the positive parts of our lives and be more creative. I felt that blogging may spur me on to try new things. I love to write and take photos so it seemed like the perfect way to do both. If I'm honest I really didn't know where it would lead or if I'd even keep it up. I tried a few crafts (some more successful than others) but once I began learning to crochet it was as if something switched on inside. I found I couldn't keep up with all the ideas I had, it's been like that ever since.

IC: How about the name, "LuLu Loves"? Where did that come from?

Emma: The name Lulu Loves came from our youngest child Lulu. The blog was intended to be about our time at home and the things we enjoyed doing. I very selfishly gatecrashed it with all my crochet talk but I still like to write about our family and what they enjoy, although it's harder now they are all at school.

IC: If you were to describe your blog in just two sentences, what would you say?

Emma: I would describe it as; A colourful happy blog, full of crochet and family life. That's only one sentence I know, but it really is that simple!

IC: Crochet is just one of the mediums you use, what other crafts interest you?

Emma: They all interest me, I love learning new skills. I enjoy crafts I can do with the children but for myself, If I had time, I would learn more about embroidery, knitting and sewing.

IC: Who in the 'crafting world' inspires you?

Emma: There are so many inspiring creative people whose work I adore. Really anyone who has a strong sense of their own style. I love almost anything designed by Erica Knight, Nicki Trench & Kat Goldin. For colour inspiration I love to visit blogs such as; http://sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.co.uk/ http://crejjtion.blogspot.co.uk/ and http://www.yvestown.com/ they always make me happy.

IC: And finally, what top tips would you give to someone looking to start their own blog

Emma: I would say blog about something you are passionate about and do it for yourself. Everything else you can learn along the way.

Look out for the first instalment of Emma's new column in issue 48 of Inside Crochet. On sale from 29th November 2013!
