Shops we love: Sconch Textiles

This shop in North Essex (Braintree) is perfect for a relaxing shopping trip, with a sofa and armchairs to sit in as you browse. Run by Sam Conway, the shop stocks a large range of yarn, including big names such as Debbie Bliss and King Cole as well as independent dyers such as Town End Alpacas, Little Boo Yarns and Easyknits. “I like to think we have a good range of yarns for every budget and every taste,” says Sam.
Sconch Textiles runs “Craft’n’Cake” sessions, where customers can bring in their projects and catch up with cake and some yarny gossip, as well as classes in crochet, knitting, needle felting and wet felting. There is also a fully functional online shop, so even if you’re not in the area you can still choose from the great range of yarn, accessories and pattern collections, and orders are always posted out on the same day.
