As spring finally raises its head and the first bulbs push their shoots through the soil, this issue we celebrate with fun and colourful makes. Our cover project, Emma Varnam’s stunning Claudia Cowl, is the perfect lightweight adornment to brighten up any outfit.
Meanwhile, another of my favourite projects this month has to be San Bee’s perfect little spotty blanket. Inspired by the hues of a Damien Hirst spot picture, the bold pops of colour on the white background are classic and fun, perfect for both a pram blanket and a modern living room. Whatever its use, this versatile piece is sure to become a popular throw within your household.
Broomstick crochet is fast becoming popular again. Quick to hook up and light and lacy to wear, the fabric is perfect for warmer weather. The technique has been around for a long time and has a retro charm to it, yet there are so many beautiful contemporary patterns available which demonstrate it can be extremely fashionable. Lindy Zubairy’s mitts and headband set is a perfect first broomstick project if you fancy giving it a go. The headband is right on trend and can also be doubled up as a neckwarmer for colder days.
We must also mention that the stunning Mystery Blanket by Sabina Poonwassie finishes this month with a fabulously ostentatious flourish. Don’t miss it – turn to page 24 for this final instalment and get issues 60, 61 and 62 to complete the set. Oh, and don’t forget to send us the pictures of your gorgeous final makes, I love to see them!
