Beaded Earrings

King's Day Beaded Earrings by Bianca Boonstra

Bianca was inspired to design these earrings during a recent workshop she taught on crocheting with beads. Attending was a young girl using beads to create beautiful bracelets. She sat beside Bianca and as she quietly created her own designs Bianca was overwhelmed with inspiration – one of which was this pair of earrings, perfect to wear on King's Day (April 27) in The Netherlands.

Materials

  • Small amounts of Catania Cotton no 8 in red and white 
  • 16 beads (Bianca used 8 neon orange and 8 blue from Creativ Company www.cchobby.nl, 69715 blue, 69720 orange
  • 2.5mm hook
  • 2 French earring hooks ( 60846 from Creativ Company)
  • 2 Rings
  • 2 round nose pliers
  • Needle to weave in ends

Earrings (make 2)

With red: Ch 5. Close to ring with a slip stitch
Rnd 1: Ch8, make 8 double crochets in the ring. Close round with a slip stitch.
Rnd 2: Ch3 (=1st Treble), 2 Trebles in the first DC from previous round, * 3 Trebles in next DC. Repeat from *, close round with slip stitch. Cut yarn, pull through remaining loop. Weave in ends.
Rnd 3: Join white, Ch3 (=1st Treble), Take a bead, put it on the hook. Pick up a loop, as if you are planning to DC. Pull bead over the stitch and finish your DC, 1 Treble, chain 2, * 1 Treble, Take a bead, put it on the hook. Pick up a loop, as if you are planning to DC. Pull bead over the stitch and finish your DC, 1 Treble, chain 2. Repeat from *, close round with slip stitch. Cut yarn, pull through remaining loop. Weave in ends directly.

Open ring with your pliers. Pull ring through one of the stitches, and through the ring of the French Earring hook. Close ring with the pliers.  Have fun!
