It might be the middle of winter, with everything outside cold, dark and gloomy, but there’s no reason it has to be dull inside when we can crochet our own accessories and homewares in cheerful colours and vibrant shades.
That’s the ethos behind Happy Crochet, subtitled “Over 60 bright and colourful projects to make you smile†– and they certainly do!
There’s a lot packed into this small book, from granny square throws and cushions in gorgeous colour combinations to cheery shawls, rainbow legwarmers for little ones and pretty-yet-practical market bags. Our favourite is probably the gorgeous retro-style long cardigan for toddlers – but it’s a tough choice!
The chapters take you from decorations and homewares through seasonal accessories – “Spring Fresh and Summer Fineâ€, “Autumn Lovely and Winter Warmâ€, then “It’s Christmas Time Againâ€, so no matter what the time of year, you’ll find the perfect project to hook. Patterns are clearly written out with plenty of bright, close-up photography.
The book includes basic crochet instructions as well as an introduction to working and joining granny squares, so this would make a great gift for anyone looking to take up crochet in the New Year.
