Claire Montgomerie's 2-in-1 Hat/Cowl from issue 58 combines a pretty and unique stitch with a fabulous chunky yarn to create a simple, versatile accessory that works up extremely quickly.
As well as Inside Crochet's sample, Claire hooked up another version of her Inge Hat/Cowl using her my favourite colour (citrus 08) in Debbie Bliss Roma. (Below)

bold texture of this pretty stitch looks fabulous in a chunky yarn, and
this simple, versatile accessory works up extremely quickly.
MATERIALS
â— Debbie Bliss Paloma Tweed, 50% alpaca/30% wool/ 14% acrylic/6% viscose, 50g/65m/71yds
Shade: Honey 08 x 2 skeins
â— 9mm hook
â— 1m of contrast yarn, ribbon or cord
YARN ALTERNATIVES
Try any bulky yarn here. We find Debbie Bliss Roma or Rowan Big Wool work particularly well.
TENSION
Work 1 pattern repeat and 5 rows to measure 10 x 10cm/4 x 4in using 9mm hook, or size required to obtain correct tension.
MEASUREMENTS
Tube
measures approx 50cm/19¾in around and 26cm/10¼in deep. It will stretch
to fit over average woman’s head, approximately 54–58cm/21¼–23in.
