Lazy summer walks through the countryside in the sunshine, picnics in the long grass,
camping in a field, wildflower meadows and blue skies… These are just some of the
hazy, summery inspirations for this month’s issue. I have long been trying to create the
perfect wildflower patch in my garden, with varied success, so working on these pages
has helped evoke the sunshine, colours and beautiful blooms that I so desire!
There are so many beautiful blooms in this issue, not least Tuija Heikkenen’s stunning flower patterns. I have long been a fan of her artistic, stylised approach to crochet and so I am beyond excited that she has designed us a project in her inimitable style. I adore the versatility of the motifs she has created – you can arrange them artistically as Tuija does with her glorious “crochet illustrationsâ€, or just as easily embellish a cushion or garment. I think I am going to do all of the above! And if you like this idea of using florals to decorate or upcycle your wardrobe, then Tracey Todhunter’s feature on page 34 on how to create floral embellishments will be right up your street. My personal favourite is the straw bag adorned with blooms – so fashionable right now! Many of the garments and accessories inside are perfect for festivals, camping and holiday wear. Hippy styling, colourwork, fringing, lace and ruffles abound, as in the gorgeous off the shoulder ruffled top by Emily Ashbourn – contemporary, understated and cool for wearing in the summer heat. Meanwhile, Victoria Haynes’ bag is the perfect festival accessory; large enough to fit in your phone, sunglasses, sunscreen and lippie, but small enough not to hinder your dancing!
Happy crocheting…
