Online Exclusive: Designer Inspiration

Tracey Todhunter talks about her latest pattern featured in issue 76; the popular Vintage Flowers Blanket [above].
"In the 1970's my Dad was a prolific crocheter. We wore dresses,
waistcoats and ponchos that flew off his hook – and we all had motif
blankets draped across our beds made with the scraps of leftover yarn.
Dad taught himself to crochet by following instructions in the Golden
Hands (a magazine which came in weekly parts), I learnt by copying him!

My
Granny taught me the basics, but it was watching Dad persevere with new
techniques that really inspired me. He could crochet everything from
exquisite doilies made with sewing thread to chunky wraps and baby
matinee jackets.
The blanket I designed for Inside Crochet
is based on this simple blanket Dad made for my sister [right], I loved it so
much I took it with me when I left home and it's travelled with us ever
since. I posted a photo of the original on Instagram and I was amazed
how many people loved it. When Claire Montgomerie said "Oh, you must
make one", I rose to the challenge and sat down with my hook. Although
I love my new version made with Rooster's gorgeous Almerino DK, I would
still love to make one with as many memories as Dad's original"
