It is hard to believe but it is that time of year again. And every year, it is about now that the realisation dawns that you should have started crocheting for Christmas in July! Luckily, we have a whole host of gorgeous, quick-make projects for decorations and gifts, which will ensure you won’t be crocheting until the last minute. Ali Campbell’s sumptuous Christmas stocking on page 54 was designed with present lovers in mind – it is huge! Despite its size, it is really quick to make as it is worked in chunky Merino yarn. It’s also actually a great introduction to socks due to its large scale and the fact you only have to make one of them (unless you have lots of children!).
Talking of socks, we know that they are often the ultimate in boring Yuletide gifts, but you can guarantee that if you give Rohn Strong’s beautiful and cosy chequered pair (page 66) to a loved one this Christmas, they won’t be forgotten at the back of a drawer.
If it is decorations you are hoping to make, then Sara Sinaguglia’s snowfl akes are so quick and easy to crochet, not to mention addictive. My tree will be covered just in these if I keep hooking them from now until Christmas, which is quite likely! Sara has been our resident columnist for a year now and has designed an array of beautiful projects to keep us occupied throughout the seasons. Unfortunately for us, she is moving on to pastures new after this issue and we will miss her humorous anecdotes and interesting tips and techniques – but do not fear! Sara will still be a regular contributor to the magazine and we’ll be getting a fabulous new columnist in January. Keep an eye out on the website for the exciting news of who that will be. I can’t wait to tell you!
