The patterns in this month’s Inside Crochet make me feel incredibly warm and happy. There is definitely a fresh summer breeze blowing right through this issue’s pages and it’s not a minute too soon. I have already made use
of Lynne Rowe’s cute Veg Sticks to mark out the seeds I planted with my daughter and we’re looking forward to
a bumper crop when summer is at its height, with no worrying over forgetting what we planted where!
We also have some beautiful, summery accessories and garments, some of which are inspired by the past and yet remain achingly modern. Annelies Baes’ sweater employs the dolman sleeve shape made popular in the ’50s and reimagined in the ’80s to create an airy, lightweight and contemporary jumper that I can think of a multitude of ways to wear. From chucking on over your cozzie on the beach or with shorts for a stylish holiday stroll, to all dressed up for an evening out or even simply with jeans for a trip to the shops. Perfect!
Cassie Ward’s waistcoat, meanwhile, has a definite nod towards the ’70s, but wouldn’t be out of place at a music festival this summer – it certainly evokes the relaxed, colourful Californian style of the oh-so hip Coachella festival.
The homewares this month also contain some bright summery colour. I love the warm shades used in Sarah Shrimpton’s fab bean bag and Emma Du’s striking blanket, both of which would add a hint of Moroccan charm to your interior or make perfect summery garden picnic accessories. I hope these projects warm you up as quickly as they have me.
Happy hooking!
