I love the “fresh start†feeling that comes with a new year – the sensation that the year ahead can be anything you choose to make of it. Obviously 2017 will, as with previous years, involve a fair bit of crafting, but I think January is the perfect time to think about all the new types of crochet out there that you might want to try.
If you want to make 2017 the year you finally try Tunisian crochet, then we’ve a gorgeous baby cardigan and striped cushion, or if you want to take your Tunisian projects up a notch, then Cassie’s stunning Tunisian Jacket, with a houndstooth effect stitch and on-trend mustard edging, is a must-hook.
If you’ve never tried corner-to-corner crochet, then the fabulous purses by Rosina Northcott on page 81 are a perfect place to start. And if you fancy trying some motif-style projects, then turn to our monochrome waistcoat on page 52 or the beautiful Duneflower Blanket on page 58. We had this draped over the Inside Crochet stand at Yarndale and it was a real showstopper!
Finally, if you’ve never crocheted a garment before, then see Annelies Baes’ glorious Violetta Cardigan, a simple top-down design that will work up quickly on this issue’s free 12mm hook. Of course, once you’re hooked on making your own clothes (and it is addictive!) you’re going to need to deal with the laundry basket, so turn to page 24 to read all about how best to care for and hand-wash your crochet.
Happy New Year
