The Winter Frost Issue

Welcome to the first, frosty issue of 2023. It feels like we are all treading carefully and rather cautiously into this new year.

Inside this issue

We’ve been extremely grateful to have the escape of simple pleasures like pottering in the garden, getting lost in a good book, or picking up a hook to work a few more rows on our latest projects. Becoming absorbed in the pattern and feeling soothed by the repetitive stitching is a feeling we know we share with many crocheters who turn to their craft for comfort.

After the sparkle of the festive season, January can feel a little flat, so we’ve designed this issue to feel like a warm hug! Dive in and find lots of snuggly garments, accessories and home projects in calming shades and tactile textures to combat the winter blues, including Claire Montgomerie’s super-chunky Aran-style Anfa Jumper, and the elegant Strata Cardigan designed by Fay Dashper-Hughes.

We also have some delicate pieces inspired by morning frosts, including Cassie Ward’s Wild Frost Shawl in a beautiful silk and mohair blend yarn, or Helda Panagary’s Mohair Whispers shawl made with two different yarn weights.

And of course, we can get started on Jane Crowfoot’s incredible new crochet-along, which has been designed to provide crafting comfort throughout the year ahead. We’re so happy to get our hooks into the first motifs.

Finally, if you’re in need of a hug, may we recommend you Yorick the Yeti, a charming character designed by Victoria Kairis to be just the right size for cuddling!

Wishing you a safe and happy 2023.
