Have you noticed how, especially at this time of year, the natural world seems to change so rapidly? Each day brings a new leaf unfurling, the daylight hours lengthening by another fraction; even the air we breathe seems fresher.
The ancient Japanese calendar was divided into 72 micro seasons, each lasting just five days, and today some people still observe this traditional kyureki system. April and May bring the shunbun (vernal equinox) and risshun (beginning of spring), so here at Inside Crochet we’re enjoying our own little micro season in our fresh air issue.
With wisps of wind and blue skies in mind, our designers have come up with some ethereal makes, capturing the essence of this mini season.
Cassie Ward’s breezy Cirrus Mesh Top and Simone Francis’ beautiful Altostratus Peplum Tee show us how effective fi let and lace crochet can be, while Louise App’s pretty Puff Top uses mohair to stunning effect. We have some gorgeous sheer projects too in the shape of Millie Masterson’s pretty Breeze Café Curtain, and Eleonora Tully’s stunning Wisp Lace Bunting.
Cassie Ward’s Little Storm Dress is perfect for those squally days that are best spent indoors, and you can play with texture and shape as you make Kwannie Cheng’s Aura Ruffle Tote and Lucy Djevdet’s Shu Ruffle Sliders.
In this month’s Scheepjes Masterclass, Claire Montgomerie’s chic linen stitch beret looks so pretty in spring shades. Plus, we’ve got a bonus pattern book of brilliant bunting! So pick up your hook, take a deep breath and enjoy.
