The Artist's Retreat Issue

It's not often we get to meet our heroes in a truly inspirational place, so for this issue we were over the moon to spend the day with none other than Jane Crowfoot. Her blanket and wrap designs are incredible works of art, so it seemed fitting that we invite Jane to create an exclusive new crochet-along for Inside Crochet for our artist's issue, using beautiful Stylecraft yarns and inspired by William Morris. Morris is famous for his involvement in the Victorian Arts and Crafts movement, and this issue is prompted by great works of art, and photographed at William Morris former home, the Red House, in Bexleyheath. It was so wonderful to see the use of colour and pattern at the house and see the crochet projects so well suited to the environment.

Inside this issue

Besides part one of Jane's new CAL, this issue has beautiful watercolour pieces such as Hannah Cross's cushion and Theodora Burrow's Dalloway scarf, abstract designs such as Claire Montgomerie's stunning textured wall hanging and Michelle White's paint-spatter effect apron, and wearable pieces inspired by great female artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Vanessa Bell and Barbara Hepworth that are perfect for this seasonal transition. We think there is something for every kind of art lover in this issue, and hope you'll feel inspired by the photography as we did when we visited the Red House. If you're in the south east of England we can highly recommend a visit there, the National Trust has done a wonderful job restoring and preserving the pre-Raphaelite's artistic legacy and there is a café and plant shop to boot!

We urge you to look through your stash, pick your palette (or try Cassie Ward's Matisse cardigan), fill up your pretty new project bag and get inspired!
